of Civil Engineers to award International Engineering Heritage Landmark status to the
Woodhead dam on Table Mountain.
His book "Ninham Shand – the Man, the Practice", the story of the well-known consulting
engineer and the company he founded, was published in 2010, and he has written extensively
for his Institution’s magazine. Another book aimed at the general reader is about to be
published.
In 2010 he received the rare honour of being made an Honorary Fellow of the Institution in
recognition of his historical researches as well as for his efforts in promoting the profession
among young people and influencing politicians about the role and value of civil engineers.
He lives in Rondebosch.
