The Point in the Lives of the Fishing Community

I believe that many years ago the so-called "Point" was used as a grazing field for cattle at
certain times of the year. The name "Point" is one that has been in use at Kalk Bay for not too

many years as it was always known to the local fishing community as "Die Kompanie" -
meaning the area where fish processing was done, owned by a company, and managed by a
