and spent his life there, but remained in contact with his close friends Alec and Stephanos.
He died in the 1970s.
The descendents of the two old men (Fig. 2.41) live in Toronto, Norwich, Thessaloniki, and
suburbs of Cape Town – Niki Bassios (du Toit) in Claremont and Anne Stavrou
(Dimapoulos) in Constantia.
Still living in Kalk Bay are Stephanos Stavrou’s son Sotiri, his wife Litsa, their daughter
Sophia Jowett and son-in-law Paul and grandchildren Katherina and Christopher. His
daughter Jean Gialamos and her husband Stavros (Steve) split their time between Kalk Bay
and Thessaloniki.
My parents (Jimmy and Eleni), Karena and I, with our children (Sofia and Thomas), also
live in Kalk Bay. The four latest and youngest descendents live across the road from each
other, in buildings originally bought by their great-grandfathers who came together as best
friends from a turbulent land to make a new life in Kalk Bay.
