At the same time (July 1926), the SAR negotiated a two year arrangement allowing
them to take a rail spur across the CCC Main Road at Silvermine bridge to a piece of

their land on which they wished to quarry stone for foundation materials for the line-
                  doubling in that general area.

Arising from this happy arrangement the SAR were prepared to grant the CCC the
necessary land in the quarry area for bringing the extended Boyes Drive down to the

Clovelly Road level. Moreover, the quarrying would be carried out in such a way as to
prepare the ground where the two roads would meet each other.

At the same time the CCC were making representations to the SAR to increase the

number of arches in the viaduct to cross Kalk Bay beach so that as much beach as

possible would be retained for public use. In this they were successful too.

Mayor’s Minute Sept. 1927: All matters had proceeded so successfully that on

28/4/1927 Council adopted the report of its Railway Committee which “have settled
tentatively the terms of an agreement to be concluded between the Council and the

Administration with respect to an exchange of areas for the doubling of the railway line
at Kalk Bay and the widening and improvement of the Main Road between Muizenberg

and the Municipal Boundary near the Trappies at Kalk Bay.”:

 Council undertakes to transfer to the Government a portion of the remaining

extent of KleinTuin – alienation of this area will not affect the Council’s scheme
for widening Main Road at this point, if required, to 50 feet, while there will be

sufficient land available to enable the roadway in places to be supported by

embankments thus obviating the necessity for erecting expensive retaining
                         walls.

 Railways Administration undertakes to relinquish in favour of Council, and will
give transfer where possible, of all the areas of land which the Department

                                                                                             st
