            Krom River

            To  the  north  of  Olifantsbosch  and  also  on  October  15 ,  1817,  J.  P.  Kirsten  was  able  to
            expand  the  boundaries  of  his  original  grant  of  five  morgen  65  square  roods  on  the  Krom
            River to take in the land to the west coast, and then northward ‘naar de Schoesters’ (near to
            Schoester’s Kraal) and eastward to encompass an area 530 morgen 361 roods in extent, and
            which became the farm Krom River (Cape Farm No 1036)  (70) .

            Moving further east Jeremias Auret was granted, on January 1 , 1817, a further 15 morgen
            and 547 square roods of land on the Klassjagers River under Perpetual Quitrent. This land lay
            along the river below his original 10 morgen (still retained on fifteen year erfpacht / quitrent)
            to the now northern boundary of Olifantsbosch. When his original erfpacht expired, he was

            able to convert this 10 morgen tract of land also to Perpetual Quitrent on March 1 , 1824 (71) .

            Then  on  October  25 ,  1827,  he  obtained  a  further  252  morgen  of  surrounding  land
            (Wolvekop) and finally an additional 594 morgen 423 roods still further south on November

            1 ,  1832   (72) .This  last  piece  of  land  surrounded  an  anomalous  tract  of  land  on  the  upper
            reaches of the Hout River – 24 morgen and 6 square roods in extent - first granted to Nicolaas

            Sertyn on October 15 , 1817 (Cape Farm 1042)  (73) . Later land surveys show this plot as
            belonging to John Osmond and then John McKellar and labelled as ‘Lot 3’, so apparently this
            small  parcel  later  became  attached  to  Buffelsfontein  /  Cape  Point  with  Buffelsfontein  and
            Cape Point Farm as Lot 1 and Lot 2, respectively.



            Following up the Klaasjagers River, Charles Morgan and Richard Savary were granted 36

            morgen and 197 square roods of land above Auret’s property on January 1 , 1817  (74) . Above
            this  Oranje  Klein  still  held  his  10  morgen  on  fifteen  year  erfpacht  /  quitrent.  To  later
            conclude his estate, this land was converted to Perpetual Quitrent and granted to his heirs on

            November  29 ,  1828.  Through  subsequent  land  grants  to  the  south  this  would  grow  to
