Trish Wood grew up in Sunnydale and then did a Teaching Diploma at Rhodes University in
Grahamstown. Overseas travel during 1982 gave her an appreciation of our Cape Dutch
architectural heritage. She is the current owner of Poespaskraal and her family’s long
connection with it since 1864 has generated a commitment to taking care of and preserving
this precious heritage. She is the mother of a son and daughter and is researching the history
of her family and Poespaskraal, which she hopes to publish in a book.

David Erickson was born near Cambridge, U.K., and was educated at Huntingdon Grammar
School – whose earlier pupils included Samuel Pepys and Oliver Cromwell. Following a
short but enjoyable spell with the Corporation of Trinity House (the General Lighthouse
Authority), he began a lifelong career in the international oil & gas industry, working as part
of project management teams in the design and development of offshore facilities. This led
him around the world – and finally to Simon’s Town for a so-called ‘retirement’ that sees him
as busy as ever. In his spare time he maintains the Simon’s Town Dockyard Clock – winding
three heavy weights up the tower on a weekly basis is part of his fitness regime! He has a
deep interest in History and Heritage Conservation, is a member of the Simon’s Town
Architectural Advisory Committee and is a past Chairman of the Simon’s Town Historical
Society.
