ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTORS
Gary Mills Gary Mills grew up in Fish Hoek and developed a passion for the sea from a
young age through spending most weekends game-fishing on the family boat. After national
service he started WSCUBA diving and in 1979 started a commercial salvage diving business
specialising in the raising of sunken vessels. He has successfully undertaken numerous high
profile salvage contracts on foreign registered ships. His fascination with shipwreck diving
was inspired by the tenacity and endurance of treasure hunter Mel Fisher who spent almost
20 years searching for the wreck of the Atocha. Gary has spent over 40 years researching and
searching for missing shipwrecks along the Cape coast and has successfully located
numerous forgotten wrecks. At present he is involved in several exciting new projects in the
field. He is a Commercial Dive Supervisor and RYA Yacht Master Offshore Skipper,
