The medicine is put up in bottles of various sizes and labelled, at a store near the City Hall, and
despatched in quantity to the various depots ready for distribution, the work of filling the bottles
being largely done by medical students.

An urgent appeal is made to Scout-masters to organize their Scout boys in the collection
of medicine bottles, which are urgently required at 60, Corporation street, where medicine is
being bottled for distribution. The bottles should be either 2 oz., 4 oz., or 8 oz. The executive
would be glad of the services of 12 Scouts to assist in washing bottles and to make themselves
generally useful.

An appeal is also made to owners of motor-cars to place their cars at the disposal of
those engaged in relief work. This is extremely desirable, as it will not only expedite the work
of relief, but will greatly assist workers whose task is a most heavy one.

To reinforce the inadequate staff of medical men, about 100 medical students from the
South African College have volunteered their services, and yesterday very good work was
accomplished by them. With a thermometer they made house-to-house visitations in the thickly
populated neighbourhoods, registering the names of those who were down with the sickness
for medicine that would follow, and in the case of those whose temperature was serious, making
arrangements for the patient to be despatched to Rentzkie’s Farm. They were always welcome
visitors, in one instance a guinea being tendered in payment for services rendered.

Acting on the suggestion of Councillor MacCallum, the Health Department is adopting
the plan of registering discovered cases under the heading of the various streets, so that doctors
and visitors will be able to locate the patients and deal with them seriatum. St. Mark’s and St.
Philip’s Halls, in District 6, were opened towards noon as depots. But the supply of milk, soup
etc., proved inadequate to the demand. It is hoped that the improved arrangements to-day will
obviate any further disappointment. The creche, which was decided upon at Monday’s meeting,
was opened yesterday morning for receiving babies whose mothers were down with sickness.
It was filled in one hour. Provision is being made for another, and if not already so, will be
opened to-day.

The Coloured Troops’ Rest House is turning out large quantities of soup and milk,
which is being distributed in the area between Castle Bridge and the Woodstock boundary.
Unfortunately, the labourers are few, and much difficulty is experienced in finding willing
hands and trolleys to distribute the comforts to those unable to fetch them. On Monday no less
than 1,600 servings of soup were sent out, while yesterday quite double the quantity was
distributed. At the Feather Market the ladies of the Troops’ Entertainment Committee were
busy all day supplying milk and soup, while similar services were being rendered at
