               Belmont Road


               Belmont Road may have been named for the British victory at the Battle of Belmont. Here British
               troops incurred heavy losses after attacking an entrenched Boer position over open ground. This

               victory was celebrated by the Empire and there are at least 12 streets with this name in and around

               Cape Town.
