In 1912, before the construction of the harbour, new legislation was introduced. Boats had
to be registered at the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Office for numbers to be issued and
these had to be displayed on the vessel’s bows. Boats from Simon’s Town, Miller’s Point,
Fish Hoek, Muizenberg, Slangkop as well as Kalk Bay all carried the ST registration. (Fig.
3.6). I do not exactly know when Kalk Bay boats were given their present KB registration.
In 1912 there were 39 boats registered at Kalk Bay. Many of the Kalk Bay vessels were not
registered because they had to meet with the standards as set out by the Port Authority of
the district.
