108 Main Road. Originally
this house was an average

many years previously (pre-

Philip Morgenrood and
where the home’s stables
had, for a short while, been
used as a place of worship
until the Dutch Reformed

The house appears to have
changed ownership on a regular basis every ten to fteen years. At one time
(1885-1895) it was owned by George James Findlay who called it Vancouver
House. Later William Bisset (owner 1902-1912) renamed it Somerset House.
Finally John William Jagger of wholesalers J.W. Jagger & Co. changed the
name on ownership (1912-1924) to Balgarthen, a name which has remained
until recently when it has been renamed, The St. James.
