& RS). Le Rivage (meaning ‘the shore’) was 1890s guesthouse that changed name in
1903 to St James Hotel. Popularity led to steady expansion. St J RCC 1900 and Mission
School behind it. Star of the Sea 1908 began as sea-side convalescent home for nuns but
became a convent school catering for local children of all races from St James, Kalk Bay
and elsewhere. Springfield Convent in Wynberg was the parent school.
