Figs. 2.27 & 2.28: St James Roman Catholic Church (R1151, WCA & RS) replaced
smaller 1858 one of same name that stood on sea-side of Main Road. Named after patron
saint of Spain; name was adopted for the rail station and then the local area. In 1947 old
entrance porch replaced by bell-tower and new Memorial Porch built on Main Road side
commemorating parishioners who died in both world wars. Attractive historic dressed
stone wall and wrought-iron railings removed.
