Figs. 2.76 & 2.77: Simon’s Town – Long Beach, c.1915. (R1490, WCA & RS).
Wide beach with regular pattern of ‘beach cusps’ arising from erosion by low
energy wave pulses typical of off-shore winter NW wind conditions.
Today: Beach eroded owing to altered wave and current patterns caused by
harbour construction 1900 – 1910, and 1980s. Sewage works and solid waste
site at Red Hill – Main road junction; Kelp Products Co in foreground.
