Oakburn Duiker Point Duiker Point Stranded in thick fog at 6.30 am while bound from Barry 1906/05/21
and New York for Australia and New Zealand. Her
stranding was partially due to a strong inset current. She
filled with water and sank immediately. The crew (22
Europeans and 18 Chinese) was saved in the lifeboats,
with the exception of two. One Chinese crew member
jumped overboard and was drowned, and the second was
crushed between the vessels' side and a lifeboat. Her
 dimensions were: 359.6 x 49.1 x 17.6 feet, and she carried
a 369 nhp, triple expansion engine by Charles Hocking.
Lies east of the wreck of the Maori, on the southern shore
of Maori Bay. She lies at a depth of 20m, (max = 25m),
and can only be dived on calm days because of her
exposed position. The wreck structure is deteriorating fast,
and penetration dives are inadvisable. The vessel lies on a
steep slope, with her boilers and engine block at the
bottom, and her bow pointing south.
