armour supported by lorried infantry. However, the Brigade Workshops managed to escape
this disaster by withdrawing eastwards.
The Second Battle of Sidi Rezeg followed from November 27 – 30, by the end of which
each side had incurred huge losses of men and materiel without achieving outright victory.
On 1 December, amidst mixed fighting, a general withdrawal of Allied forces took place
from Sidi Rezeg towards the Libya-Egypt frontier. The place and circumstances in which
William Bremner lost his life on this date have not been established.
He was survived by his wife Doris of “Gramercy”, Church Grounds, Holy Trinity Church,
Kalk Bay.
