aircraft guns, was protecting the perimeter of a tank park in the vicinity of Taieb el Esem

                  where the SA Brigade, under the command of Brig. Dan Pienaar, had assembled for their

                  withdrawal to the Libya-Egypt frontier. At 09h26 on 2 November the Brigade came under
                  heavy Stuka attack and incurred 90 casualties of whom 17 were killed. It seems likely that

                  Frank Scrimgeour was among these.


                  He was buried in Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery, Egypt, Plot XXIV, Row A, Grave 5. The
                  cemetery is on the main coast road from Mersa  Matruh through to Libya, about 12 km

                  from the border, and adjacent to Halfaya Pass. The area was the scene of heavy fighting in

                  1941 and 1942.


                  He  was  unmarried  and  was  survived  by  his  parents  and  two  younger  brothers  of  1  St.

                  James Mansions, Carisbrooke Steps, St. James.
